Emma Smaal's logo is an architectural skyline — each letter of the name SMAAL takes the form of a distinct building.
S — two offset masses connected by a central cutout, like a stepped building with a rooftop stairwell.
M — two towers of different heights linked by a suspended glazed bridge.
A — a gabled building with dormer windows and an arched entrance, referencing Norman architecture.
A — a terraced building with stacked setbacks, like collective housing on a slope.
L — a tower with a cantilevered wing and strip glazing. The structural motif of the L'Envolée project.
The whole composition rests on a shared ground line and a faint construction grid, recalling the tracing paper of architectural drawings.
This project is the design of a collective housing building for approximately 40 residents, developed in pairs. It proposes a reflection on the mix of living modes, combining family apartments and studio flats around a system of interlocking duplexes.
Volumetric model — collective housing
Concept development — interlocking duplexes
Structure axonometry and floor plans
Duplex model — overhead view of both levels
Model photographs — natural light and interior spaces
